CARTA Northbridge Services

The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) is working to provide a safe and free connection across the Northbridge for cyclists and pedestrians by increasing the frequency of the Route 32 Service.

The initiative began in October 2021 and according to CARTA, “will provide free transportation between bus stops on either side of the bridge for both cyclists and pedestrians.”

CARTA recognizes that there is a safety gap for pedestrians and cyclists trying to cross the bridge. According to data provided by the SC Department of Transportation, there have been nine pedestrian/bicycle - motor vehicle collisions between 2004-2017 on the bridge. A further three pedestrian/bicycle - motor vehicle fatalities have occurred since 2018.
